Key Challenges in the North American Power Grid

Obrien_Kathleen10_11-214x300Hi everyone,

I just posted an opinion piece on GE’s World Conference of Science Journalists (WCSJ) webpage. Every two-years, science and technology journalists all around the world gather to talk about trends in science and technology and how the media reports on various advances. This year, the WCSJ conference will take place in Helsinki, Finland the week of June 24th and GE is a sponsor.

How science and technology gets reported is so important, especially in areas like energy and healthcare where we do R&D.  We depend on science writers to report on our activities accurately and responsibly. By the same accord, it’s up to us to discuss our research in an accurate manner.

The piece I wrote will be part of a series of articles that colleagues of mine from our other centers around the globe are writing about the state of the grid and how it differs from country to country. It’s interesting to us how the discussion around energy can be so different depending on where you live.

So take a look at my piece, Key Challenges in the North American Power System and let me know what you think. I hope you enjoy it.

Also, don’t forget to follow Edison’s Desk on Twitter next week for the latest on what’s happening at the conference!
